Teaching Theory
The theory of education that most aligns with my teaching style and philosophy is Paulo Freire's (1968) Pedagogy of the Oppressed. Similar to what Freire outlines in his theory, I believe the teacher and student should be engaged in a reciprocal relationship where both are learning from the other in an interactive and collaborative exchange. Students will be challenged to think critically and thoughtfully engage in dialogue that poses solutions to real-life, complex problems. Through the development of these skills, my students will be prepared to enter the social work field armed to actively participate in the transformation of the world around them.
